Hey Sis! Do you remember back in the late 90’s early 2000’s human crochet hair used to be in style! However, they quickly faded to a thing of the past due to the unnatural and fake appearance these braids used to have.
Now crochet braids have made a huge comeback. Women and stylist used to only using synthetic hair and braids to do crochet styles. Now that is a thing of the past. It is now popular to use human hair over synthetic! Human hair crochet braids are here to stay due to the ease of use and styling methods.
Crochet does not just consist of styling braids, but divas are using bulk or braiding hair to make crochet braids look like real – natural hair or sew-ins! o stands out when deciding to use crochet braids as a protective style.
The primary way people would crochet would be the braid down method. The braid down method is where you cornrow your natural hair without any leave out and use a latch hook to install the hair onto the braided foundation. However, there are so many new trends and styles using human hair crochet methods that do not require you to braid down your foundation for a more natural appearance.

Styling Curly Human Crochet Hair
There are crochet faux loc, crochet ponytails, even crochet wigs!!! The opportunities are endless. I am amazed at how these stylists are working with human hair crochet braids! A lot of popular curl patterns for crochet hair is kinky curly, afro-textured hair, deep wave, loose deep and pretty much anything wavy or curly LOL. If your going for a natural crochet style with lots of bounce and volume.
Straight Crochet Hair
If you want something with a little less volume then our straight crochet hair look amazing! Loose Deep and Deep wave patterns are also a good choice, however it can be hard to find a human weave alternative. Especially in the loose deep texture as most of those are synthetic or a blend of synthetic and human hair. The thing I love most about human hair over synthetic is the ability to go from curly to straight and back curly again. Similar to wet and wavy textures. However with synthetic hair you have to use hot water to set the curls and without the ability to change later if needed. You can reset it with hot water again but you risk matting the hair and making it look dull.
Braiding
There are also creative ways to do a particular method or individual crochet braids and single crochet locs. This style allows you to apply braids and locs individually without the need for a braided foundation or base. Most braids, locs and other pre-loop type extensions are mostly synthetics. While convenient they do not last long. It is possible and very easy to make you own pre-loop type human hair crochet extensions. All you need is a long rod and some good hair! (We got you covered on the good hair LOL) You can use a skinny flexirod, a narrow pipe, even a thick cord. Basically anything skinny that you can wrap hair around.
In order to make your own pre-loop type of crochet extensions for braiding or twists, fold the hair over the rod and braid or twist the hair as if you where installing the extensions. Then slide them off the rod and use a zip tie to store them for later use.

Hair Care
Crochet human hair can provide effortless looks that keep you naturally protected while looking as natural as possible. The term crochet Comes from the method in which synthetic or human hair extensions are applied to the hair while using a latch hook. We’ll go over the basics in this post.
The right crochet hairstyle starts with careful prep. Wash and condition your hair, making sure to detangle it properly. After washing and detangling, apply a leave-in conditioner, oil and styling cream using the LOC method.
Once your hair is moisturized, don’t forget to pay attention to the scalp, you are ready for a blowout. Use medium heat and a wide-toothed comb to blowout your hair. This will make it easier to braid down and keep your braids secure to make your crochet style look as natural as possible.
When separating your hair, you’ll want to create medium to medium-small cornrows that are as close as possible. Your braid pattern should depend on how you want to the human hair crochet installed and styled. If you have a side you prefer your part to be on then start your first braid on that side and braid away from the parted area for the most natural appearance without added bulk. Apply oil to the hair to help prevent dry and itchy scalp.
I suggest to leave your edges out; we’ll come back to this in a later section. Be sure to look into human braiding to add more length and volume.
Braiding Weave
Braiding weave made from human hair, unlike synthetic, will not tangle as easily while handling. If not careful, it can take some time to work through the real human texture. It’s essential to use a large surface, such as a dining table or counter, to lay the hair flat before use. You’ll want to use crochet latch hook with the human hair. The great thing about most crochet is they come ready for application. Some crochet is loose strands, and others come pre-looped for an easier install.
Installing Crochet Hair Extensions
Now that your hair is braided and your crochet hair extensions are laid out, you are ready to apply. You will need a crochet hook to use for your human hair extensions. You can get this at any local craft store, and some beauty stores will sell this along with the crochet extensions. You’ll want to start with one braid and work from the bottom to the top.
Be sure to keep the extensions tight, and the silky human hair is hard to grip at times. Once the hook is through the braid, you will feed the human strands your holding in the crochet hook and pull the strands back through the braid through the pre-loop. The distance will depend on how full or thin your hair looks.
Finishing the Install
Remember those edges you left out Now it’s time to slick those precious babies down to complete your look. Use edge-control or strong-holding gel to slick down your edges. Using a toothbrush or edge brush, you can smooth the hair in your desired direction. Apply low heat to dry even on textures and extensions.
Management
100% Human hair crochet is super easy to maintain. The braided foundation makes the scalp accessible to moisturize in-between wear. To spruce your look up each day, use a moisturizing mist or spray to keep the human hair soft. Once a week you can use a styling cream or conditioner.
You can also wash your hair with a crochet style. Use a clarifying shampoo to remove build up on the scalp. It’s best practice to wash your hair in the same direction as the braids, and this will help keep them from getting frizzy or loosening up. Each nightwear a silk or satin cap to prevent the human hair from detangling.
After your done with your crochet style, you can remove the human hair, wash, and reuse the great thing about crochet braids with curly hair extensions; you can use them multiple times.
